Fashion

In-between the international menswear and womenswear trade fairs taking place over the last few months, a range of leading kidswear shows were also hosted in the cities of Amsterdam, Paris and London for Fall/Winter 2016-17. Kleine Fabriek included a section dedicated to up-and-coming talent in the childrenswear sector, while Playtime Paris showcased three trend areas designed in collaboration with a different textile artist. In the UK, Bubble London focused on outdoor styles with a large number of sportswear brands in attendance, as Scandinavian and streetwear aesthetics came through strongly at Dot to Dot. Here, the Trendstop.com team have distilled their expert analysis of the Fall 2016 kidswear trade shows into three inspiring trends, giving FashionUnited readers a sneak peek at some of the new themes and colours emerging in children's fashion this season.

Into the Woods

As kids head into the woods for a winter adventure, collections are updated with an outdoorsy feel. Autumnal shades like pumpkin and rust complement cosy knits and technical outerwear, while forest animal graphics stand out on sweaters. Footwear takes the form of shearling-lined climbing boots, ready to take on wild terrain.

Scarlet Embers

Adding a fiery burst of energy to Fall/Winter wardrobes, kidswear designers go against conventional seasonal trends with this heated colour story. Warm red-orange tones add a statement feel to daywear apparel, including embossed sweats and sporty bottoms. Inky contrasts stand out on graphic backpacks.

Seventies Bohemian

Modern kidswear borrows inspiration from 70's retro, creating a fresh take on boho aesthetics. Must-have styles emerge in the form of buttoned suede skirts, soft long-sleeve cotton dresses and cosy shearling-lined booties. Classic 70's shades look new with bold colour pops, while prints take the form of ditsy florals.
