The Paris commercial court has ruled in favour of Zadig and Voltaire against Yves Saint Laurent, stating that the French fashion label had not replicated the design of Saint Laurent's avenue Montaigne store for its own Parisian boutiques.

French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent launched a lawsuit against the former, which claimed that the two Champs-Elysées Zadig and Voltaire stores in Paris had copied their entire interior layout concepts of their own avenue Montaigne store. However the Paris commercial court disagreed, finding the claims from Yves Saint Laurent unfounded.

The commercial court has condemned the luxury label's actions and sentenced Yves Saint Laurent to pay Zadig and Voltaire 300,000 euros in damages for “abuse and process”, as well as 100,000 euros for legal costs and expenses.

Zadig and Voltaire founder Thierry Gillier said: “An independent and promising actor of international fashion, Zadig and Voltaire has been establishing itself as a trend-setter for nearly 20 years. It is precisely thanks to the uniqueness of its rock, chic and urban universe that the brand finds its success. This is confirmed by today’s decision.”

News of the ruling came ahead of Yves Saint Laurent much awaited Paris Fashion Week show for Spring/Summer 2017, which sees recently appointed creative director Anthony Vaccarello making his catwalk debut.
