Following Paris and Berlin, New York marks the last major city to showcase men’s fashion trade shows for the Spring/Summer 2016 season before the industry calendar transitions over to womenswear. Must-see events span from Liberty Fashion & Lifestyle Fairs on Pier 94 to the NYC editions of international shows Capsule and MAN, each presenting their professional audience with an inspirational range of emerging talent and influential brands, chosen for their directional designs and commitment to quality. This season, New York menswear reflected key S/S16 themes like feminine-look aesthetics and contemporary revisions of sportswear and denim, emerging in clothing and accessory product ranges alike. Here, the Trendstop experts present FashionUnited readers with three essential trade show trends to update menswear going through into S/S16.

Celine Sports

Celine’s signature contemporary, understated aesthetic inspires a range of new season menswear, complemented by sportive designs. We see a palette of neutral tones colour pieces like clean-lined jersey tees and minimal bomber jacket co-ords, along with retro leather runners.

Distressed Denim

This texture-focus trend sees men’s denim staples revisited with distressed surfaces to enhance tactility. Frayed edgings, rips and tears all feature heavily, lending a grungy feel to casual shapes like jackets and jeans. Muted washes are key, though colour splat prints add an artistic touch.

Feeling Feminine

In menswear, one of Spring/Summer 2016’s most influential trends is the adaptation of elements more traditionally seen in women’s fashion. Outerwear is elongated with feminine longline silhouettes, while luxe leather totes resemble handbags. Other highlights include embellished detailing on sweaters, which also enhances texture.
