Apparently suing high end fashion brands is all the rage right now. First Jeremy Scott, and now Ralph Lauren. A patent designer has filed an infringement lawsuit in a Texas federal court alleging Ralph Lauren Corp. knocked off his design for a handbag with an interior that illuminates and can also charge devices like cellphones.

Jimmy Bryan's ten page complaint alleges that Ralph Lauren is using his two patents for their design. Part of the complaint states Ralph Lauren “has infringed and continues to infringe the patent by making, using, offering to sell, selling, distributing, and/or importing into the United States its Ricky Bag With Light, which is a receptacle with the precise electric accessory system at issue with the Patents-in-Suit.”

Bryan currently does not have any bags for sales, but did at one time through a licensing agreement according to his attorney Bradley Reeves of Houston-based law firm Coats Rose. However, the focus of his lawsuit is patent protection.

Ralph Lauren has declined to comment on the lawsuit due to their policy of not commenting on legal matters. Reeves said that he has not yet heard from Ralph Lauren, but, he expects to in the next coming days. We'll see just how well he fairs taking on one of the most highly regarded fashion companies in America.
