LVMH says ‘No' to selling on Amazon

London — Just because LVMH has recently begun to invest in strengthening its digital domain does not mean that the luxury conglomerate is eager to jump into any commerce giant’s bed - especially if their name is Amazon.

Although LVMH owns a number of brands in extensive portfolio, ranging from Dior to Fendi to Marc Jacobs and Sephora, which are available for sale online and via mobile through numerous different channels, the parent company has made it very clear that they will not be doing any business with Amazon. At the moment, Amazon is currently trying to expand and strengthen the one category it is said to be slacking in - namely apparel by boosting its higher end fashion offering. The online giant offers a number of affordable luxury labels, including Michael Kors, Kate Spade and Calvin Klein, but lacks premium luxury brands.

However, during conference call with investors, analysts and journalists earlier this week, LVMH said there was “no way” it would be willing to work with Amazon. “We believe the business of Amazon does not fit with LVMH full stop and it does not fit with our brands,” said LVMH chief financial officer Jean-Jacques Guiony during the call. "There is no way we can do business with them for the time being." The statement came as LVMH revealed unexpectedly strong quarterly sales, spurred by a return in demand from Chinese customers in their home market and abroad, underlining LVMH strength even without the aid of the likes of Amazon.
