Fiji Fashion Week is in its 8th year and the show is yet again evolving to cater to global and local trends. FJFW Managing Director Ellen Whippy Knight said this year’s new format sees an emphasis on Resort Wear after an overwhelming response to the show last year.

“We are trying to promote resort wear in Fiji because we are a tourist destination and there is a huge development in resort wear internationally and it’s also covers the trans- seasonal period well,” said Whippy – Knight.

FJFW15 will have a Resort Wear Show for Established and Emerging Designers on the opening show night on Thursday 28 May.

FJFW Resort Wear Show features labels such as Pandanah from Australia, RAKO Pasefika from Fiji, Dena Burton from the US, Amioga Samoa from Samoa to name a few.

FJFW15 close on Saturday 30 May with a high end Resort Wear, Evening and Bridal Couture Show. This finale show will only feature the best of the Established Designers such as Hupfeld Hoerder, KuiViti and Robert Kennedy from Fiji and Tahitian designer Hani Haring.

On Thursday 28 May, FJFW has introduced a Trendsetters category for both Emerging and Established designers, which is essentially their Ready to wear lines.

Whippy Knight said the ‘Ready to wear’ category was to help designers think and design commercially because this is where the money is to be made through bulk orders.

“FJFW has fantastic designers but we need to start attracting buyers locally and internationally to get their designs out there on a global platform” said Whippy – Knight.

Fiji Fashion Week kicks off on Monday 25 May 2015 at the Vodafone Arena.
