Australian department store chain David Jones, owned by Woolworths has confirmed to Business Day that it has reduced 15 job positions at its head office including its MD for clothing and general merchandise, David Collins, a month after Woolworths’ CEO John Dixon resigned. The merchandise leadership team would now report to David Jones CEO David Thomas.

The report added quoting a company statement that the move was taken to cut costs and stabilise the business. The department store chain has been struggling for quite some time. In fact, Woolworths slashed its value by over 7 billion South African rand (50.9 million dollars), after it acquired the company for over 20 billion South African rand (1.4 billion dollars) four years ago.

The report further added David Jones saying: “following a strategic cost review, it would consolidate its management and head office teams to provide a flatter, more customer-focused structure."
