There seems to be a lot of fashion talent coming out of Australia lately. Designers like Dion Lee and Michael Sordo spared no level of luxury at Australian Fashion Week, and it looks like the fashion scene down under is finally getting some more love. One designer has been really catching the attention of the industry lately: Ms. Kym Ellery.

Her designs have been worn by the likes of Abbey Lee and Natalie Joos, and she is slowly but surely gaining more attention globally. Ellery comes from a very interesting background. Before she took her talents on the road as a fashion design star she worked for Australian magazine Russh. That was where she really began to hone her skills as a stylist, which is what helps make her such a great designer.

Ellery cites her ability to "speak the same language as editors" as one of the keys to her success. In an interview with American Vogue she described her style as, "classic, understated, predominantly androgynous, and almost always monochromatic." Her fan base doesn't just stop with Abbey Lee and Natalie Joos either, several A-list stars are also major fans of her label. Her designs have been worn by the likes of Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Solange Knowles, and Elle Fanning. What makes Ellery unique is that all her clothes are crafted locally in Sydney, Australia.

Australia continues to produce exceptional fashion talent

Of course, like most luxury designers she also turns her sights to Europe for help. She works with mills in Switzerland and Italy to help her produce quality fabrics and textures. Oh, and guess what New Yorkers? Ellery's line will be available at Dover Street Market New York starting next month. This season, her line pays homage to David Bowie, who she credits as her ultimate muse. “This season, I was especially inspired by his style during the Thin White Duke era—the gray fluted suits—and also the Ziggy Stardust chapter, which is where all the gold brocade comes into play,” she says. Other high notes in the new offerings include a lightweight chrome coat, draped sleeveless paisley top, and slouchy sleeveless waistcoats," Ellery told American Vogue.

In addition to showing at Australian Fashion Week, Ellery will be making her debut at Paris this upcoming season. It's sure to be a career milestone for her, and further her place on the fashion map. Australia is the next country for the fashion industry to watch, and Ellery is certainly a designer everyone should have on their radars.
