London - 'Beauty and the Beast' pandemonium has taken over the fashion industry in the run up to the release of the live-action Disney movie, set to debut later this month. Everyone from high street retailers Primark, which saw its Chip coin-purse and mug sell out across the UK within days, to upcoming and coming designers have been tapped by Disney to create collections inspired by the movie and its iconic characters. Now British luxury fashion brand Christopher Kane has become the latest designer to debut its 'Beauty and the Beast' Capsule Collection, which includes limited-edition women's and men's ready-to-wear pieces.

Christopher Kane teams up with Disney and Eco-Age for 'Beauty and the Beast' Capsule Collection

The capsule collection is said to be inspired by the movie's characters and aesthetic, offers a modern take on the story, which centres on a strong, heroic female character, Belle, played by Emma Watson. "I have loved Disney since my childhood, and all of the classics, of which 'Beauty and the Beast' is one," said Kane in a statement. "It is such a great theme and story, with very iconic characters and a strong female voice. Looking back at past seasons, our archive was rich with elements that support Beauty and the Beast themes, and we were very much inspired by the film’s setting and mood."

However, unlike other 'Beauty and the Beast' capsule collections, this range sees Christopher Kane and Disney team up with sustainable consultancy Eco-Age, founded by Livia Firth, and take on Green Carpet Challenge (GCC). The move sees the designer following in the footsteps of actress Emma Watson, who have pledged to only wear sustainable fashion on the red carpet as part of the GCC. This step means that every piece in Christopher Kane's capsule collection fulfils the GCC Principles of Sustainable Excellence, with two pieces receiving the GCC Benchmark - the organic photographic rose t-shirt and the Swiss all-over rose lace dress. The rose lace dress was manufactured in Italy and is crafted from custom certified Swiss lace and organic silk, satin wheres as the rose t-shirt was made in Italy used certified organic cotton.

The capsule collection colour palette, which included blue Gainsborough silk, was inspired by the movie's dark setting and mood, featuring gold, fairy blue and vibrant red. The rose, a vital element in the movie, was a key inspiration for the collection and is featured throughout the limited edition collection. The Christopher Kane capsule 'Beauty and the Beast' collection is set to launch in Christopher Kane flagship store in London and online on March 16th, as well as select international retailers such as Selfridges, Shinsegae and Breuninger.
