New York - There were drag queens, glitter, and ballet dancers galore. Staged in New York City's Gotham Hall, an enormous concert hall that is meant for more traditional performances, Marco Marco's runway show featuring his outlandish underwear, flamboyant dresses, and drag performers like Courtney Act, Detox, and Milk of RuPaul's Drag Race fame, was the event to be at Saturday night, September 12.

The designer hosted a runway show to raise awareness for LGBT suicide, an issue near and dear to his heart, with LGBT celebrities like former N'Sync member Lance Bass and Carson Kressley of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy fame in attendance. Marco opened his show with three ballet dancers leaping across the stage, and then the models commencing to model underwear, chaps, skirts, dresses, catsuits, and pretty much anything that would have been worthy of a night at Studio 54.

Marco is a former costume designer who ventured into the world of designing underwear, hence the level of theatrics always brought to his collections and runway shows. For Marco, fashion is about bending as many gender rules as possible, and between the chiseled models dressed in skin tight underwear, and the drag queens in stilettos that had them elevated to the heavens, it was one of the grandest spectacles of Fashion Week.

The key to the designers success was consistency with this collection, as each looked flowed into the other even though it was a mix of men's and women's wear. Of course, Marco doesn't seem to believe in the concept of gendered clothing at all, but it made creating a cohesive line easy for him. If there was one way to describe Marco's collection it would be fierce.

The costume world might miss him, but the fashion world is happy to have him. He continues to wow the industry with his non-gender conforming approach to fashion, and his flamboyant aesthetic. If there is one thing that can always be said about Marco without question, he won't be losing his originality anytime soon.
