It has been only two and a half years since Alexander Wang took over the creative direction from Nicolas Ghesquiere at Balenciaga, however reports are rife that Wang may be leaving the revered fashion house. The news comes as Wang’s eponymous brand approaches its tenth anniversary, a landmark he’s celebrating by reissuing some of his most iconic archive pieces.
Alexander Wang leaves Balenciaga
Rumours surrounding Wang’s departure have been circulating for a month, but were confirmed this morning by WWD, in a report based on “market sources." According to them, the designer will show his final collection for Balenciaga during Paris Fashion Week this September. While the reasons behind his departure have not yet been confirmed by the house, a search for his successor is already underway.
Regarding this successor, Balenciaga's parent company Kering are allegedly “open to considering a lesser-known, hidden talent for the plum post,” emboldened by Alessandro Michele’s success at Gucci.
