Marjon Carlos tapped to lead Cuup's editorial team

Marjon Carlos, the former senior fashion writer at Vogue, has been tapped to lead lingerie start-up Cuup’s online editorial content. In her new role, Carlos will focus on editorial strategy and content for the “BodyTalk” vertical, Cuup’s weekly blog. BodyTalk features women and discusses the relationship they have with their bodies.

“Cuup is such a disruptor in the lingerie industry, which itself is going through a massive shift,” Carlos said to WWD “Who doesn’t have a bra horror story? Who doesn’t have a complex relationship with their body? I love that the brand is attempting to correct that through authentic storytelling, femme-centered narratives and boundary-pushing technology.”

Prior to working at Vogue, Carlos was a style reporter for Fusion. Her resume also includes being the founding arts-and-culture editor of Saint Heron. She also has bylines in Elle, Vanity Fair, Refinery29, Essence, and WSJ Magazine.

“With over a decade of dynamic editorial experience and degrees in gender and African-American studies, Marjon brings a critical background in intersectional feminism and cultural studies to our growing platform,” said Abby Morgan, Cuup cofounder and chief marketing officer, to WWD. “She has been a friend of the brand for a year and we couldn’t be more elated to have her.” 

Cuup was founded in 2018, and this year they acquired 11 million dollars in investment, bringing total funding to 15 million dollars. Lingerie sales are actually one of the few things that have skyrocketed during the pandemic, making it a safe investment bet, even in this tough retail market.
