John Lewis weekly fashion sales rise 8.6 percent

Total sales at John Lewis for the week ending September 23, 2017, were 87.3 million pounds (117 million dollars), up 6.5 percent on last year with both shops and online seeing sales growth. Fashion sales were up 8.6 percent.

Womenswear sales saw an uplift of 18.2 percent driven by strong sales of cold weather clothing and the price matching of a competitor's promotion. Menswear also experienced double digit growth with sales up 13.4 percent and womens accessories saw sales rise of 8.7 percent.

The company’s home sales were up 0.6 percent for the week. Gifts, cook & dine saw sales grow by 3.2 percent, while lighting sales were up 5.4 percent and textiles and home accessories saw sales rise by 1.9 percent.

EHT sales rose 11.1 percent, driven by mobile sales due to the Apple launch. Accessories sales influenced by Apple and also by the launch of company-branded phone cases also saw an uplift in sales.
