Kartik Research will be a guest designer at the upcoming edition of Pitti Uomo, the trade show scheduled to take place from January 12 to 15 in Florence. Indian designer Kartik Kumra, founder of the brand, will present his vision through a special event on Wednesday, January 13.

The trade show organisers recently announced that Dunhill will also be a guest designer at the next edition of Pitti Uomo. The British luxury menswear house, helmed by creative director Simon Holloway since 2023, will stage a presentation in Florence on the evening of Thursday, January 14.

“The invitation to Kartik Research as a special guest in January stems from the interest sparked by its reflection on fashion. It is a spontaneous approach that views craftsmanship as a living language and a forge of new perspectives, far removed from any nostalgic celebration,” said Francesca Tacconi, special events manager at Pitti Immagine, in a press release.

“Distinctly contemporary silhouettes define a project fuelled by the meeting of historical expertise and a modern sensibility. Here, craft proves to be genuine cultural capital. Indian techniques and fabrics enter the global conversation, breaking free from exoticism to assert an intellectual and creative authority,” Tacconi emphasised.

Founded by Kumra in 2021, Kartik Research is an artisanal fashion brand based in New Delhi, India. Its mantra is to reintroduce humanity into dressing, with every garment featuring a handcrafted touch. All pieces are characterised by a return to traditional craftsmanship, featuring hand-loomed fabrics and entirely handmade embroidery.

“I am truly grateful to the Pitti Immagine team for this opportunity. Looking at the creatives who have taken part in the guest designer programme over the years, being on that list is something special and certainly not to be taken for granted. For us, it is a chance to continue growing as we always have, allowing the world around us to guide our work in new directions,” the designer noted.

“This season, our focus is on the ancient bond between Indian textiles and Florence. We are looking at the journey of Indian fabrics orchestrated by Florentine merchants, which became part of the visual and aspirational language associated with the city today. It is wonderful to revisit that exchange, this time in the opposite direction. Participating in Pitti Uomo represents an incredible opportunity for an independent brand like ours,” Kumra added.
